STYLE - Navy Strength

ABV - 57.1%

BOTANICALS - Juniper, Corriander Seeds, Angelica Root, Szechuan Peppercorns, Green Peppercorns, Kaffir Lime Leaves, Lemon Balm, Ground Ginger, All Spice, Orange Peel and Pine Needles

DISTILLATION METHOD - Single shot distillation method using a mixture of maceration and vapour infusion techniques

STORY - The term 'Navy Strength' allegedly derives from a test the Royal Navy did in the past to determine the strength of their spirits. They were worried that when they took barrels of gin on their ships (for the sailors daily rations!), if it spilt on the gunpowder whilst at sea, the gunpowder then wouldn't light when they needed it most. So, they would soak a small sample of gunpowder in the gin and it would be lit with a match. If it burned with a clear flame it was 'proof' that it was sufficient in strength - being 57% or more - to ensure that even if it spilt on the gunpowder, it would still light! Hence the term 'Navy Strength' as the Navy always took a higher strength spirit with them compared to all the other British Armed Forces. Paul is a big fan of Navy Strength Gins (Cheryl not quite so much) so always wanted to create one, but the task was to create a Navy Strength Gin that didn't taste as strong as it actually is. After many months of development, trial and error, our Stockport Gin Gunpowder Edition gin was created. Don't let the name, term or strength of this gin put you off - it is delicious!

TASTING NOTES - Our Stockport Gin Gunpowder Edition Navy Strength gin is an intense explosion of botanical flavour. It has plenty of warmth, spice and foresty pine whilst still packing a medly of citrus notes.

AWARDS

RECOMMENDED SERVE* - Serve over lots of ice with a good quality indian tonic water. Garnish with a slice of orange.

COCKTAILS

Due to it's strength and intense botanical flavour, this gins lends itself to much punchier gin cocktails. Some of our favourites are below!

FRENCH 75 - Add 50ml of Stockport Gin Gunpowder Edition gin, 15ml of freshly squeezed lemon juice and 10ml of simple sugar syrup to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake. Strain into champagne flute and top with champagne. Garnish with a twist of lemon peel.

SOUTHSIDE - Add 50ml of Stockport Gin Gunpowder Edition gin, 25ml of freshly squeezed lime juice and 10ml of simple sugar syrup to a cocktail shaker with ice and 6 mint leaves. Shake until cold and fine strain into a chilled Coupe glass. Garnish with a  mint leaf.

* We only ever provide a 'recommended serve' for our gins - there is no such thing as a 'perfect serve' as we think it's very important that people enjoy their gin the way they want to - be that with indian tonic, skinny tonic, lemonade, ginger ale or any other mixer you prefer!
